Wow, I hope you enjoyed the concentrated dose of Brad comics! Who’s your favourite character and why?
Inspiration struck for a new comic yesterday so I shall be working on that soon. If you’d like to keep on top of new comics I suggest you follow me on Twitter, or subscribe to the RSS feed, because I’m afraid they are being produced somewhat irregularly.
I don’t really have a particular favourite, they all have their strengths and flaws, which makes them enjoyable and well written characters. Though I guess Aaronshu gets some plus points for being the only single guy left.
Technically he’s two guys, though maybe the dead one doesn’t count. Still not completely sure about Aaron’s sexuality though I do know that Kyoshu is gay and that’s why he was rejected by his father. I have been toying with the idea of introducing another cute young male character but perhaps that would be overkill. Either way the potential new character has already appeared on the strip once before…
In a way Aarron and Kyoshu are as close as two guys can be, so actually they could be counted as being… well together… their relationship is a intimate as it can be.
But as there’s only one body, I’ll still count them as singles… easiest threesome ever.
PS.: To state my personal opinion, if you were to handle Aaronshu’s love interest the same way as the others, where strangers become lovers in the course of 10 pages, I’d rather see him stay single and embarrass himself in front of potential love interest from time to time.
But that’s just my personal preference as someone who loves schmalzy love stories in which the protagonist needs 20 chapters to admit to himself that he has feelings for the love interest, another 20 chapters to admit those feeling to the love interest and 20 more chapters for them to start dating. (Preferably all those chapters are mainly about saving the world or having some other adventures while the romance is just a sub-plot)
PPS.: I’m excited at the expectation of seeing the conflicts between Aaron’s insecurity and Kyoshu’s homosexuality play out.
I have to admit that I am not a fan of the story type you mention. Will they/won’t they drama gets on my nerves because I myself am quite decisive and know what I want. I suppose I find it hard to empathise with people who are that out of touch with their own desires.
Mind you, I also said I would never write an “amusing misunderstanding leads to a strained relationship” storyline but I did that to Megan and Brad years ago. They still haven’t reconciled.
I suppose in the case of Megan and Brad their relationship developed so quickly because of the circumstances of its beginning and because of Brad’s desperation to make it work. Also, because I was making this up as I went along and the story elements kind of evolved organically out of what was originally intended to be a humour comic.
Eric and Shawn were kind of based on my experience of guys getting off with other guys from nights out at gay bars, though the fact that they’re still together shows that it works sometimes!
I have no concrete plans at this point to explore Aaronshu’s inner landscape but now that things are settling down I have a bit more time to explore characters. I’m sure Kyoshu is eager to explore New York a bit now that there isn’t some kind of existential crisis looming.
Finally, out of the various art styles I’ve tried on the strip over it’s 440 episode, 11-year history, are there any you think worked particularly well or particularly poorly? Ignoring my terrible pencil-only scribbles right at the beginning.
(where’d the reply button go? Seems the programming doesn’t want these conversations to become too long)
Honestly, I was too immersed in the story to give much thought to the quality of the art. While I noticed the general improvement, I didn’t care for the details much.
Yay, all 440 pages and it’s not even 4am yet

I suspect that it only supports so many levels of threading.
